**॥ Doha ॥**
Hail Lord Ganesha, son of Goddess Girija, merciful giver of auspiciousness.
Remove the sorrows of the humble, O Lord, and bless them with joy.
Victory to you, O Lord Shani Dev! Hear our humble plea, O Son of the Sun,
Shower your grace, O great King, and protect your devotee’s honor.
—
**॥ Chaupai ॥**
Glory, glory to compassionate Lord Shani,
Who always protects his devotees with mercy.
With four arms, dark-hued body shining bright,
On the forehead, a crown of gems beams with light.
A vast and handsome forehead with fierce brows,
His sideways glance instills fear and bows.
Earrings sparkle on his ears so fair,
A garland of pearls and gems he wears. (4)
In his hands — mace, trident and axe of might,
With one blow, enemies vanish from sight.
Called Pingal, Krishna, Chhaya’s dear son,
Yam, Kaonstha, Raudra, destroyer of affliction.
Saura, Manda, Shani — by ten names known,
Son of Surya, worshipped by seekers of boon.
On whom the Lord bestows his grace,
Even the poorest becomes royal in place. (8)
Mountains may crumble like straw in his gaze,
Or a straw turn into mountain by his phase.
He gave kingdom to Lord Rama in need,
And changed Kaikeyi’s mind with speed.
In forest a golden deer appeared,
Mother Sita was kidnapped, as feared.
Lakshman struck by Shakti, lay weak in pain,
Chaos spread across the demon’s domain. (12)
Ravana’s mind became perverse, astray,
He increased enmity with Rama that day.
He turned golden Lanka to a worm’s lair,
Hanuman’s thunder echoed everywhere.
On King Vikram you placed your feet,
A jeweled peacock necklace you did eat.
The nine-lakh necklace was accused as theft,
Hands and feet were bound, his honor bereft. (16)
You showed harsh destiny, cruel and grim,
Made him crush oil in mortars dim.
Yet when he lit lamps and sang with devotion,
You were pleased and granted liberation.
King Harishchandra sold his wife in grief,
And himself carried water for lowly relief.
So also King Nala suffered your blow,
Burned food, and leapt into water below. (20)
When you seized Lord Shankara’s form,
You made Parvati perform sati, forlorn.
With just a glance you grew enraged,
And Ganesha’s head from body was disengaged.
On Pandavas your influence was dire,
Draupadi nearly disrobed, saved by divine attire.
You bewildered the Kauravas’ mind,
Causing the great Mahabharata war in time. (24)
The Sun you swallowed into your face,
Leapt into the underworld’s dark embrace.
Gods prayed to you with folded hands,
And freed the Sun from your command.
Seven are your vehicles adorned with pride,
Elephant, bull, donkey, lion, deer at side.
Jackal and dog too you ride with power,
Astrologers predict fate by such an hour. (28)
If you ride the elephant, Lakshmi comes near,
On horse, wealth and fortune appear.
Donkey brings loss and work in vain,
Lion grants success and royal gain.
Jackal destroys wisdom and sense,
Deer brings suffering and life’s expense.
When you ride the dog, theft and fear arise,
Misfortune descends from the skies. (32)
Your four metals — gold, silver, copper, iron known,
On them your steps bring different tones.
If iron step falls, wealth and kin are lost,
Copper and silver bring blessings at no cost.
Golden step is auspicious, prosperity divine,
Brings joy, peace and fortune combined.
Whoever daily sings this Shani Charitra song,
No evil phase will trouble them for long. (36)
O Lord, your wondrous plays are great,
You weaken the strength of enemy’s state.
If a learned priest conducts your rite,
All planetary evils vanish from sight.
On Saturdays offer water to Peepal tree,
Donate lamps and find prosperity.
Says devotee Ram Sunder with love,
Remembering Shani brings blessings from above. (40)
